A sign to ponder

Thanks for nothing — no, really

A correspondent in Columbus, NC reports she recently ordered a Sausage McMuffin at the drive-through of the local McDonald's -- a treat for two beloved dogs -- but was told the establishment had run out of sausage.

Well, she replied, as the dogs looked on and listened, could the restaurant substitute bacon — make her a "bacon muffin," as she put it?

The voice over the loudspeaker confessed they were also out of muffins.

Imagine this! On a Tuesday morning!

She sighed — she'd wanted to eat the muffin and give the dogs the meat. She said thanks and drove to a nearby supermarket.

There she was delighted to find chicken wieners on sale for 99 cents a one-pound package — 30 cents off the usual price. What luck!

She bought eight packages to freeze as treats for her four dogs — but not before giving the two girls waiting in her van their reward for being patient.

She enjoyed breakfast at home after giving the other two dogs their fair share.

Didn't someone say, an obstacle might be only a stepping stone? Had our correspondent not been twice thwarted at the drive-through, what are the chances she'd have seen the great supermarket deal? Thiddle thanks our correspondent for a great story.
